From the 200-meter Main Tower, the European Central Bank's Eurotower or the Japan Center: The Neue Mainzer Straße in Frankfurt am Main not only serves as the city's main traffic artery, it is also the hub of Frankfurt's banking quarter. It is here that the Frankfurter Sparkasse has its head office. To safeguard staff and customers alike, security technology from ABUS was installed at Sparkasse head office and 17 other branches (as at September 2009) in the Rhein-Main area. Here, video cameras monitor the foyer and keep an eye on ATM transactions.

Challenge and solution

Remote access from one location to all other systems

• Integration of the cameras via hardware-compressed PCI cards into the network of the Sparkasse branches
• The recording systems are broken down into a security control center (in the Neue Mainzer Straße branch) and a host to evaluate the image data (bank security center in Offenbach)
• Access rights are controlled by defining different authorisation and access levels via video management software

Smooth recording and playback of the 200 or so cameras

• Guaranteed fluid, high-quality images using H.264 compression of the image data
• Transfer of the data with 9x lower data rate (MBit/s) than with MJPEG compression eases the load on the network

Precise and discrete monitoring of money transfer

• Use of a mini camera that is the size of a Euro coin directly in the ATM
